Frequently Asked Questions
What is the weather like in Sonoma?
During the summer, the weather in Sonoma is mostly sunny ranging from 80-90⁰F in the day to 50-60⁰F at night. For more specific weather forecasts, please check out the links on our Resources page.
What type of clothing should I pack for the activities?
A detailed list of recommended attire for each event will be sent to all participants as reservations are received.
Am I allowed to deviate from group activities?
Gourmet Nomads takes great care into the creation of each trip package that we offer. As such, we recommend that all participants stick to the itinerary as it is written. All activities have been crafted and planned specifically for our group size, thus we encourage all guests to enjoy the adventure that has been created.
Can I bring a friend with me on the trip?
Absolutely! Simply tell them about Gourmet Nomads or include them in your reservation, personally. The more the merrier.
Do you recommend travel insurance?
We strongly recommend you purchase travel insurance in case you have to cancel or curtail your trip due to an emergency. Your local travel agent can arrange the details for you, or you may want to explore online providers.
We’re a couple – will we have the chance to be on our own at all?
Yes. We work hard to create itineraries that balance meaningful activities with a bit of leisure time to unwind, shop, people-watch and give you the chance to make your own discoveries.
Can single travelers join the tours?
Yes, absolutely as anyone interested in a culinary adventure is welcome. Single travelers do have to pay a single room supplement (listed with each trip price) for hotel accommodations. However, if you’d like we can try to connect you with another single traveler that wants to share a room.
Are there any additional costs I should plan on?
You need to book and pay for your own air travel as well as transportation from/to the airport to/from the trip starting point. You will also need to cover your own personal extras such as mini-bar purchases, phone and Internet use, shopping, or any activities not included in the tour that you choose to do on your own.
What should I wear?
We recommend casual wear for the tour. You may want to bring one dressy item for festive occasions but nothing formal is necessary. Comfortable shoes are important as you’ll be walking quite a bit. To fit in with the locals, we leave bulky athletic shoes at home and go for low, flexible loafers or sandals, and sleeker sneakers instead.
Do I have to purchase the tour in advance?
Yes, advance purchase is required. Tours typically sell out quickly. To maximize your chances of getting a reservation, please book well in advance.
Can I get a refund or reschedule my reservations?
Once purchased, reservations cannot be refunded or rescheduled because your space is being guaranteed on the tour. Our tours often sell out. No partial credits or rescheduling is allowed for partial attendance, no shows, or late arrivals. It is your responsibility to show up at the right location, on time. The tours depart promptly.
Are there vegetarian options?
Yes! If we know in advance, we will do our best to make appropriate substitutions for you.
What if I have dietary restrictions?
For all tours, please be sure and let us know if you (or anyone in your group) has a dietary restriction (e.g. vegetarian, nut allergy, etc.) when you purchase your tour. We will do our best to accommodate your needs.
Are there kosher options?
The majority of the food tastings are not guaranteed kosher.
Do the tours have anything to offer a local?
Definitely! Many of our attendees live right here in Sonoma. Locals often join us to learn about the great food finds in the their own backyards that have been under their noses the entire time! This tour is a fantastic way to rediscover your own hometown.
What happens if it rains?
The tours are held rain or shine. You should dress appropriately for the day’s weather conditions and bring an umbrella if necessary.
Does the tour guide accept gratuities?
Gratuities for good service are always greatly appreciated.
Are cameras allowed on the tours?
Yes! In fact, we strongly encourage participants to take photos during the tour. However, we do not allow video cameras or tape recorders.
Are tours offered only in English?
Yes, we only offer tours in English at this time. Please call us if you would like to make arrangements for your own interpreter to join the tour.
